WORLDS BIGGEST 1 DAY MTB EVENT - ILLOVO ESTON MTB ENTRIES OPEN!

It’s finally happened!!! The one you have all been waiting for - the Illovo Eston MTB Challenge to be held on 1^st August at the Eston Club in KZN is now open for entries. Billed as the biggest one day MTB event in the world, and with only 3000 quality moisture management shirts and goodie bags - for pre entries only, action on the website is sure to be frantic. And YES! ROAG will be there! So go to the website and get your entry in now.

Let’s get the MUD issue out of the way. Yes last year was terrible with nearly 2 inches falling on the weekend of the event. However, the Organisers have had a few conference calls with the irrigation department, and are assured there will be no rain on the weekend. If the emails fail to get to the right people, there is a DRY ROUTE planned, which will be implemented. So even if there is some rain, there will NOT be the same muddy conditions as last year.

The most popular distance at Illovo Eston is the 18km fun ride through Tala Game Reserve, Durban’s finest game reserve. This ride is the ideal introduction to this wonderful sport which is growing at such a rapid pace. This course is totally non-technical and suitable for both the young and more experienced. If you are thinking about getting out of winter mode, or just want to spend some quality, fun time with friends or family, this is definitely the ride for you.

Last year, the long race was reduced to 60km, and judging by pre entries, this was an excellent decision. Unfortunately the mud was absolutely terrible, and nobody really got to experience the full beauty and enjoyment of this ride. This ride will be a true marathon style race with all the technical challenges and single track, yet it will be over a far more manageable distance. So the hardcore adrenalin junkies will get their fix, and the braver weekend warrior will get a taste of the challenges of the longer races.

The ever popular 40km will have a few minor adjustments made to the route, in the constant quest for the perfect ride. If this is your distance, you are sure to enjoy a fantastic day in the Eston Countryside.

The younger generation, and those electing to chaperone, can participate in the 10km Ola Milky Lane ride. This will be 2 laps of 5km, giving those that are more interested in the ice cream a chance to get home quickly. Loads of goodies will be dished out by the willing Ola staff.

A “KidZone” will be available if you need to leave your youngest ones in safe and professional care while you tackle the Eston terrain. Be sure to get there in time to fill in the necessary paperwork.
